New Zealand Certificate in Aquatic Treatment Systems

Description

This course replaces the previous Pool Water Treatment and Operations Certificate.  This qualification was developed by Te Mahi Ako and is delivered by Wai Skills. 

It is designed for people who wish to increase their skills and knowledge in plant operations, aquatic treatment systems and management of water quality.  

Course Content

This 60-credit qualification covers the following areas:

  • Monitor aquatic treatment systems, plant and equipment and interpret water quality testing information to ensure the safety of personnel and participants in aquatic environments.
  • Operate plant equipment to respond to water quality issues and situations and to implement corrective procedures. 
  • Implement a maintenance plan for aquatic treatment systems to meet compliance organisational requirements.
  • Review pool Risk Management plans to identify trends over time, recognise influences on water quality and identify ways to improve the performance of an aquatic treatment system.
  • Work with internal and external customers to communicate water quality testing results and to record and report on improvements.

Assessment

The assessment requirements of this course are completed in class and in the workplace and include:

  • Written tasks
  • Practical assessment tasks
  • Evidence documents

 

Once you have successfully completed the Aquatic Treatment Systems assessment you will achieve the following unit standards and gain the New Zealand Certificate in Aquatic Treatment Systems (Level 4):

  • 31985 - Demonstrate knowledge of pool water treatment for public pools and spa pools.
  • 31986 - Perform calculations relevant to water quality in a public pool and spa.
  • 31987 - Manage water quality in a complex pool and spa pool.
  • 31988 - Monitor and manage quality water treatment processes and equipment in a complex public pool and spa pool.
  • 31989 - Demonstrate knowledge of, and assess, pool risk management plans for water quality.

Programme Structure

Delivery of this course is via face-to-face workshops in regional locations and online facilitated webinars.

 

 

Module 1 - Pool Components and Design

  • Delivered as a 3-day face-to-face workshop

 Module 2 - Water Quality

  • Delivered as a series of three online 2-hour webinars.

 Module 3 - Corrective Procedures

  • Delivered as a 3-day face-to face workshop
